The two trends my partner and I talked about were technological advancement and game based learning. Game based learning utilizes games as a platform to teach subject matter. There are many online games that Institutions are now using as a teaching tool bringing game based learning very closely related to technological advancements. As I am taking the PIDP courses to become an Instructor of Carpentry, I chose building technology advancements as my main focus for the blog. Staying current with the latest building technology will certainly aid in my quest to become a good Carpentry Instructor
2. Implications
Technological advancements and trends will continue into the foreseeable future enabling us to adapt and change along with them. Lifelong learning has become more of a way of life not just a phrase that some people have used to describe their ‘superior computer knowledge’ anymore. The use of computers, smart phones, tablets and flesh detecting table saws are already changing the way Carpentry is instructed in both the classroom and workshop environments. This blog will aid in my journey to keep abreast of technology updates associated with materials, tools, safety equipment and software. Staying current of new developments will be the key to being up to date as an Instructor
3. Aha Moment
Out of all the construction technology advances I have looked at and learned about I think the exoskeleton suits gave me the first ‘Aha’ moment. To think that we have advanced so far that these have become not just a childhood fantasy seems almost unreal. I used to dream about one day becoming a comic book character like Iron Man and now that dream can become a reality, but in a real life situation where the suit isn’t a weapon rather a helpful tool. Exoskeletons can aid workers in performing everyday tasks such as heavy lifting, balancing, decrease fatigue and increase overall performance in the workplace. Technology can make childhood fantasies come true and help build a better world at the same time.
